Laplander folding saw - This saw is unfaultable, the folding mechanism secures the saw both when closed and open very securely. The handle is very comfortable and the leather stap ensures it does not come out of your hand to easily. The blade is very good, I have sawn through 4 inch thich logs with ease and the saw is very good at keeping its edge. A must have piece of kit. Only slight complaint is that it cannot be attached to your belt, but this is only a minor thing compared to the brilliance of the saw. So I still gave it 5 stars.
Couldn t be better! - Light but robust, cuts thick tree limbs unbelievably fast, tears through the sort of tough bushes that give machetes nightmares, weighs hardly anything but robust and has excellent ergonomics. The blade locks not only in the deployed but also the stored position, making it extra safe to carry. It even looks quite nice, in an unflashy way. Bizarrely perfect - I wish every tool I bought was this good.
Handy and Hardy - You`d be suprised at just how useful this little tool actually is. I have a similar one which has been left out in the garden for years now and is still going strong. I have bought similar stuff from amazon before so I can fully say that you should buy this tool from here. Its cobby blade style certainly helps it maintain an edge aven under the toughest of circumstanses. Whenever you need to chop, lop or cut something, this is the tool. the only drawback [which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5] is that the hinge can get a bit rusty and stiff after alot of weathering, so do try and take care of it despite what I said. So if you have any kind of garden, this is the tool for you!
Best folding saw - After buying a cheap Faithfull folding saw (cheap in quality, not in price if I am honest) and breaking it after cutting about 5 bits of wood in the great outdoors, (it was sharp but the blade just snapped, not very impressive) I decided to buy the saw that Ray Mears himself uses- the Bahco Laplander. Bahco is one of the best tool makes there is, it is Swedish and their build quality and comfort of use is second to none in my oppinion. So I bought my Laplander, it is brilliant, very sharp, top notch quality, attractive to look at and very comfortable to hold. It is also very strong, it has seen some hard use and I have yet to damage a tooth and the blade has shown no signs of getting blunt and I don t see it snapping in the near future, this saw has an idiot proof locking mechanism also. One thing I will say is this: Don t rely on the leather strap, due to it being leather the knot can undo itself if you have this attached to your belt, you can change the knot though so this is not a major concern.
Used on Bushcrafting Course - Probably the best saw you can have with you in the wilderness. I recently went on a bushcrafting course in Midhurst, West Sussex and this saw was indispensable. Apparently Ray Mears uses them, and we learned from his instructor, so can t be far wrong.Highly recommended for any bushcrafting, gardening or even simple DIY!
